Though he was largely unknown to folks outside the music community, his contributions helped form the bedrock of pop culture in the 60’s, and into the 00’s. Odds are that sometime today, you’ll tap your toe to a song Arif nurtured to fruition!!

I saw the Astoria Fighting Fishermen pummel Tillamook High in sheets of rain and wind. Somewhere up the coast Henri plays for Orcas High to see if they go to State. Kevin is reminded of championships won and lost and the rest of us might recall a moment in the sun, a pass caught on a stretch of beach… it was perfectly thrown, as I remember.

December 30, 2008

(Shannon) Well here we are at the end of another year and I can only surmise that I'm in some kind of freakish time warp compression thing because last I looked it was, oh, January of '08 or so…maybe Einstein could explain this to me, or maybe not. Do you feel the same way Geo?

(George) I cannot explain it. And sometimes a year has so many new moments, it seems to slow down…well, therein lies the answer!

(Shannon) Well however time works, it's been quite a year, one that makes me lean forward to peer into 2009 for the optimistic change that awaits us all. I know many people are worried about the economy on a personal and global level, but I do think we are in this together, which leads me to consider the word “currency”, and to see the continuing exchange and ongoing flow of money, energy, electricity, love, acceptance, breath itself, which causes me to realize it is up to each of us to keep this flow going, it is a natural law and therefore EASY! We're made to do this! Give/take, in/out, back/forth, up/down, you get the picture. Fear is contraction, love is expansion. When you are feeling contracted, close your eyes for a few moments and reach for, allow for, expansion until you feel it in your body, until you inhale and exhale with ease, until you feel a growing spaciousness around you ~ it's a visceral concept.

OK, there's my one sided discussion on the matter, but I mean it, it's serious, and playful, and we're in it together, and isn't that reassuring?

(George) I just tried the contraction/expansion exercise and feel better for the breathing… I forget, and remember. Reminds me of meditation or yoga.

'09 was a year of so much change in every way, and my wish for the people I haven't met, my family and friends and me, is that we ask for help, and give assistance, and look into somebody's eyes when we talk with them, and listen…on every level that we're able. And find patience- and for all that, may it be a year we're proud of next year at this time.

(Shannon) Nice, I like that. I want to say to you all out there, love your moms and dads whether they are with us still or not. My mom died this year, and I was fortunate enough to hold her hand as she made her transition into some other place. It was an awesome event, inspiring of awe, and I could see that she was surprised, interested, ready to go, at the moment of passing. This gave me great comfort. I love her deeply, miss her more than I could have imagined, and am thankful to her for her unique magnificence that I perhaps only recently truly understood and honored. I love you Mom.

(George) This morning, I woke up and wanted so much to call my Mom, and have our reflections on the past year. I know Shannon, that feeling of a deeper understanding of both my parents later; their lives are still unfolding to me. We transferred old movies to DVD, and it's been a joy to see Mom and Dad so young again!

(Shannon) Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to write in, to all of you who have continued to enjoy our music everywhere, showering us with compliments we are happily humbled to receive. It would be interesting to be able to see each of you, but please know you are in my spectrum of awareness, you have helped me to unfurl my vision of life, of connection, of the reason for creative expression. I'd like to quote an excerpt from one of the many uplifting emails written to us in 2008, this one from Daniel Calixto from Brazil who apologizes for his English although in fact it is a completely charming delivery…

“So, since then, I'm loving your music, that is to me a music to celebrate the life, the happiness, the feelings… all these things that touch our hearts, and make us feeling more humans, more lovers.”

Here's to more humans, and more lovers, thank you Daniel!!

Love to each,
Shannon and George
